Community joins hand to support 'Seva food bank'

Seva Food Bank has distributed over 100,000 pounds of food to over 400 families in need

Brampton: On a call by 'Seva Food Bank' that they are facing food shortage, many community members came forward with support, in its fight against hunger and poverty and raised more than $15,000 to support their ongoing operations.

OrganizerGurmeet Singh Ahluwalia said “We’re delighted to see such an outpouring of support from the community. The money raised tonight allows us to really focus our efforts on taking care of these families.”

Since opening its doors in September 2010, the Seva Food Bank has distributed over 100,000 pounds of food to over 400 families in need from the Mississauga and Brampton cities.

The Seva Food bank, initiated by 'Sikhs Serving Canada',a non-profit organization, provides safe, nutritious and culturally-appropriate food to low-income families in the area.This food bank is run by a team of hundreds of volunteers, who work collectively to feed over 400 families a month by collecting food through volunteering and then distributing it among needy persons.
